We put the hive togethr built aOur first year with the hive was a wonderful learning experience shared with a neighbor who brought her hive over so we could learn together. We prepared a small area to help keep weeds away and built a simple windbreak to give the bees a little extra protection. Once the hive was settled into its new space, we were surprised by how calm and docile the bees were. Watching them work, communicate, and move in and out of the hive gave us a hands-on opportunity to learn more about their behavior and the important role bees play in a healthy ecosystem. What began as a small backyard project quickly became a shared neighborhood experience filled with curiosity, learning, and appreciation for these incredible pollinators.

As we look ahead to 2027, we are incredibly grateful to a generous donor who added two new beehives to our growing colonies. With more bees comes an even greater opportunity to support pollinators, learn from the hives, and strengthen the ecosystem around us. We are also expanding our native flower gardens to provide more food, habitat, and seasonal blooms for the bees and other beneficial pollinators. What started with one hive is becoming a thriving little pollinator community, and we are excited to see where it grows next.

Workshops and healing sessions

Our second year with the hive brought even more excitement when the colony split in the spring and produced a big, beautiful swarm. Watching thousands of bees gather and move together was an incredible sight and a perfect reminder of just how fascinating a healthy hive can be. The new colony settled in well and is thriving, which has made this year feel like a real milestone for us. With two strong hives and so much more to learn, we’re excited to keep growing, expanding, and creating an even better space for our bees in the years ahead.

In 2028, we hope to expand our apiary into an apitherapy-inspired Bee Hut and pollinator education space. The proposed structure will allow visitors to safely experience the gentle sounds, vibrations, warmth, and natural aromas of active honeybee colonies from a protected space above the hives, while also learning about honeybee behavior, pollination, native plants, and responsible beekeeping. Our vision is to create a peaceful, nature-centered setting for small-group education, reflection, and wellness experiences while maintaining the health and safety of both visitors and the bees. Donor support will help fund the Bee Hut structure, hive equipment, safety features, educational materials, and continued expansion of the surrounding native pollinator gardens. Together, we can transform our growing apiary into a unique community resource where conservation, education, and human connection with the natural world come together.
